June is the summer solstice month; the longest day is followed by the shortest night. Then, our nation celebrates Midsummer`s Day. This festival is regarded as the most characteristic Latvian ritual, which is the least affected by foreign breezes. This day from early morning until late night, several traditional rituals are executed: washing a face in a brook, decorating rooms, weaving crowns, lighting a fireplace, singing, dancing and searching a fern flower. In the course of evening, also festive dinner is prepared, when the home- brewed beer, bacon pies, Midsummer cheese are served on the table. Enjoying the holiday feeling and wishing this ritual having many traditions to be successful, the chef of the restaurant KEY TO RIGA Gunita Rolova recommends to taste our menu novelty – A RIGA`s DOWRY CHEST, and that is a plate of meat, fish, cheese and pickled snacks
